Course Information for EMMANUEL & COX

Hello Friends,

I am writing to let you know about an exciting new studio space Elaine and I will be opening in Stones Corner as of July. We are finally taking the plunge in a small shop in Comonos Arcade – 3/281 Logan Road to be precise.

The main purpose of the space will be studio space, with only a small retail space being set aside for display. The space is currently being decked out with new benches to accommodate 6 students, as well as a teaching bench, tool cupboard, kitchen area and office space.

The plan is not only for Elaine and I to use the space for our creations under Emmanuel & Cox, but for me to be able to offer classes to a smaller number of students. To begin with, I will be running 15 week courses starting in the week of the 8th of July. I will be braking between the 20th of September and the 7th of October. Classes would then finish on the 1st of November.

15 week courses are priced at $810 + materials. Materials generally cost $120 for the teaching component of the class and participants will be given a materials list for each week upon enrolment, allowing you to buy the materials, as they are required or to buy in bulk.  I will also be sending this list to the suppliers so they know what to have on hand for you. Each course has been designed with the opportunity for students to create their own pieces from the skills they have learned throughout the course. Class times are as follows:

Introductory to Silversmithing:

Designed to introduce you to the basics of silversmithing. Participants in this class will learn to make earrings, rings, pendants, riveting, sawing, filing, annealing, sweat soldering, cabochon setting and more!

Monday 6:30pm – 9:30pm, Tuesday 9:30am – 12:30pm/6:30pm – 9:30pm, Thursday 1pm – 4pm

Silversmithing 2:

Designed as a follow on from Introduction, participants in this course will learn to further their skills exploring hinges, wax carving, etching, milling and reticulation, as well as explore resin and frame making.

Monday 1pm-4pm, Tuesday 1pm-4pm.

Silversmithing 3:

To hone your skills even further, learn to make an ingot, create claw settings and advanced bezel settings as well as creating settings in wax, plus knotting

Monday 9:30am  12:30pm, Wednesday 9:30am – 12:30pm

Studio/Silversmithing 3:

Wednesday 6:30pm-9:30pm

Studio Silversmithing:

Studio allows you access to the studio and equipment each week on a set day and time where you schedule your time. It is a cost effective way of being able to access the studio and have a tutor on hand to offer you assistance in the projects your are working on. I will also be offering smaller focus workshops throughout the 15 weeks on techniques that the students in each studio class are interested in.

 Wednesday 1pm – 4pm, Thursday 9:30am – 12:30pm, Friday 9:30am -12:30pm

Silversmithing for Teenagers $810 (INCLUDING materials)

Designed for high school students, this course will run students through traditional silversmithing techniques with a twist! A strong focus on recycling materials from plastics, building supplies, fabrics, wood and more, students will learn traditional techniques of soldering, filing, polishing, riveting and finishing techniques. Materials for this course are included in the price to make it easier for students to just rock on up to the studio and get creating!

Wednesday 4pm – 6pm

In addition to the 15 week courses I am planning to run 8 week courses, 2 day workshops, master classes and one day tasters. I will also be offering casual studio hire and private tuition. Prices are listed below:

8 week courses are priced at $435 + materials

2 day workshops are priced at $300 + materials

1 day tasters are priced at $150 + materials

Casual Hire (studio and Equipment only) – $25 (3hr session)

Private Tuition (3hr session) – $120

Costs associated with master classes will be dependent on the guest artist who will be running the workshop, and may run for 1-2days, if not more depending on the style of workshop being offered. My plan is to have a few of these throughout the year where a guest artist tutors the workshop in a specialty field, helping you expand your skills and adding a new feather to your cap!

Some of the courses are already full and some are filling up fast, so time is of the essence. To enrol into a course please email me at your earliest convenience. A $100 deposit on courses is required with full payment needing to be made by the start of the course. This can either be made via credit card or eft.

The studio is located close to both the Stones Corner Bus Station as well as Buranda Train Station, and there is plenty of street parking available, but if all else fails ALDI (50 meters up the road) offer parking with the first two hours free and $2 per half hr after that. There is also two hour parking available at the bus station across the road.

Finally, at the end of each 15 week course I will be having a sales period for the student work to be displayed and for students to celebrate their achievements and showcase their work to friends and family as well as industry professionals. Elaine and I will also be hosting our annual Studio Sale in this space, converting the whole studio into a retail outlet, enabling us to run the studio sale for a longer period of time.

Please feel free to spread the word if you know of any one who may be interested in learning silversmithing, and if there is a course you are interested in taking but there is another time that would suit you best, please contact me and let me know. I may be able to accommodate your needs into the schedule.

We can’t wait to show off the new space to you and will be having a studio warming in the coming weeks to which we will forward you an invitation, once we have set the date!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Dan and Elaine!
