Artist Statement

In the previous year I have been focusing on creating new works comprised of elements that can be transferred across a broad range of styles of jewellery, with particular emphasis on production jewellery. Using Asian culture as inspiration, I have developed a range of work such as earrings, pendants, brooches and neckpieces that maintain a consistent theme and aesthetic. Within the process of developing these pieces I have been conscious of price points for the retail market, aiming to create work that sits comfortably with both retailers and consumers alike. This process has also lead to the exploration of using cheaper materials as well as Sterling Silver, without compromising the high quality finish and construction.

IWith my sights on a new direction of sculptural pieces both as free standing forms as well as jewellery, I am now looking to traditional carvings for inspiration in creating more artistic works once again. I am changing direction and moving away from a strong focus on commercial product and more towards the creation of a line of work that suits me better – one off carved pieces and works that have a stronger figurative aspect.
